The Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 EU, announced during IFA in Berlin in September 2024, is now available for purchase. Aqara already launched several new products last month, like the Aqara Light Switch H2 for the EU and US . Like these lights switches, the Dimmer Switch H2 EU supports both Zigbee and Matter over Thread, allowing you to choose between these protocols. It works both with or without neutral and is able to dim your lights manually, but also through Smart Home platforms like Apple HomeKit, Google Home or Home Assistant. The Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 EU is available on Amazon for €49,99. Aqara also launches their first outdoor camera today, the Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro.
Features Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 EU
The Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 EU is created for the European market. A US version will be available in a later stage, featuring a different design fitted to the US market. The Dimmer Switch is able to adjust incandescent lamps, dimmable LED lamps, halogen lamps, fluorescent lights and ELV fixtures. The H2 can do this with 1% precision. There are two modes, a leading and training edge mode, which you can switch based on your light type. The minimum brightness is adjustable on device using a specific order of presses and turning the knob. This means this feature is available both in Zigbee and Thread modus, while the maximum brightness can only be set in the Aqara Home app over Zigbee.
The key feature of the Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 EU is possibly the support for both Zigbee and Thread. By supporting both protocols in one device, users don’t need to decide beforehand which protocol they like to use with this device. While the predefined setting is Thread, you can use the Aqara Home app to switch to Zigbee mode. You’re able to change this at any time, but only during set-up, which means you need to re-instal the device when changing protocols. Using Zigbee, you need a Zigbee hub from Aqara, while in Thread mode you can use any hub with support for Matter over Thread like the Apple HomePod (mini), Google TV Streamer or Nest Hub. The Aqara Light Bulb T2 and Aqara Light Switch H2 also support both these protocols.
Wireless Switch and Power Monitoring
The Dimmer Switch supports multi-gang installation and includes a build-in wireless switch. With the wireless switch, you can activate a scene or control devices. You can either connect these devices in the Aqara app or e.g. in Apple HomeKit when using Thread. A neutral wire is not required, but it does support a neutral wire. In that case you can also monitor the power usage of the connected lights.
When looking into some more technical details, the rated voltage is 220-240VAC, 50/60Hz. The size of the Dimmer Switch H2 EU is 86 * 86 * 55,45mm. The rated load is smaller or equal to 300W for incandescent or Halogen lights and smaller or equal to 200W for dimmable LEDs. The minimum load is 4W when using Matter via Aqara Home and 9W using other methods. The device can operate in temperatures between 0 and 40 degrees celsius and a humidity of 0-95%.
