Aqara launches Aqara Presence Sensor FP1E

Aqara Presence Sensor FP1E

Today, Aqara launched the Aqara Presence Sensor FP1E. Similar to the already available Aqara Presence Sensor FP2, it’s able to detect presence in a room with high precision. There are also some noteworthy differences with the FP2. The FP1E connects to your Smart Home using Zigbee and one of the hubs from Aqara, while the FP2 is WiFi based, without the need of the hub. The Aqara Presence Sensor FP1E is available at Amazon in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom , Spain , Italy, France, Germany, The Netherlands and Poland and selected other retailers for $49.99/€49.99/£49.99.

Features

The Aqara FP1E is a Zigbee based presence sensor with support for Matter through a hub from Aqara, such as the Aqara Hub M3. These are the main features of the Aqara Presence Sensor FP1E:

  • mmWave Radar Sensor with a 200 ms response time
  • 120° field of view covering 35m² (side installation) or 50m² (ceiling installation)
  • AI technology for detection of interferences
  • Matter over Zigbee support
  • Compatible with Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, IFTTT and Homey
  • Powered by 2m power cord with USB-A
  • Magnetic mount and sticker included

Differences with the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2

Aqara already offers a presence sensor, the Aqara FP2. There are several differences with the new FP1E. We’ve listed the most important differences of both presence sensors.

Aqara Zigbee hub requiredYesNo (WiFi)
Matter supportYes (bridge required)No

Next to the difference in price and protocol (Zigbee vs WiFi), the main difference is the lack of multiple zones and functionalities such as sleep monitoring and light detection. This makes the Aqara FP1E a more affordable presence sensor which is mainly useful for detection of presence in a specific room, without the need for specific zones or tracking multiple persons within this room. Where the FP1E supports Matter with a hub from Aqara, the Aqara FP2 currently lacks support for this protocol, however this might be added in a later stage. Both sensors are nevertheless supported by most of the popular Smart Home platforms.
