Aqara U200 officially Apple Home Key certified

Aqara U200

In the latest update of the Kickstarter for the Aqara U200 Smart Lock for backers of the project, Aqara confirms the official certification of Apple Home Key for the Aqara U200. This means the Aqara U200 is the first smart lock in Europe with this certification, allowing users to open their door by tapping the keypad with their iPhone or Apple Watch. As a retrofit European smart lock is installed on the inside only, the NFC chip is not build in the lock itself, but the separate keypad. The Aqara U200 will also be available in the US at launch.

Matter and Thread

The Aqara U200 is based on Matter over Thread, allowing users to connect this smart lock to their favourite Smart Home platform directly, such as Apple HomeKit or Google Home. With the recent launch of the Aqara Hub M3 with Matter and Thread, it’s also possible to connect the lock to this Aqara hub.

Kickerstarter backers will receiver their smart locks soon, as they are fully ready for shipment. The Aqara U200 will have an official retail launch in Q3 or Q4 of this year. As this is the first European lock with Apple Home Key, it will be interesting to see whether well known brands such as Nuki will also implement this feature.

We will review the Aqara U200 in the coming weeks. Check our website in the next few days/weeks for the latest Smart Home news and the full review of the Aqara U200.
