Today, Cantata, a start up from France focussing on consumer electronics solutions, launched their Kickstarter for the Haptique RS90 and RS90X Universal Remote. These universal remotes are able to control your Smart Home, audio system and more with one single device. It looks like a combination between a classic remote and a phone, which it essentially also kind of is. It’s a dedicated device with a touchscreen and a number of buttons to control your devices at home. The Kickstarter is running until July 19th and already reached the goal of €9000. Shipment is expected from August 2024.

The Universal Remotes comes in two different versions, the RS90 and RS90X. The RS90X adds a fingerprint scanner for extra security, 2GB RAM, 16GB Flash, WiFi 5Ghz, Bluetooth 5.0, an Infrared reader and an Octa Core ARM, while the standard RS90 has 1GB of RAM, 8 GB Flash, only WiFI 2.4Ghz, Bluetooth 4.1, a Quad Core ARM and lacks a fingerprint scanner and Infrared reader.
Integrations
Cantata aims to add a lot of integrations to the RS90 universal remote in order to really control your complete (smart) home with the remote. Some integrations are already available, where others are still under development and expected later this year. We’ve listed some of the integrations below. With above list, a lot of Smart Home devices are covered. Especially support for HomeAssistent can potentially bring almost all Smart Home devices to the Universal Remote, while integrations such as Philips Hue, Tuya and Ikea Tradfri also allow less advanced Smart Home users to control their Smart Home. All integrations are planned for this year, but there is of course no guarantee they will indeed meet these timelines.
Kickstarter project
The Haptique RS90 is available in Silver and Gunmetal Grey. Super early birds pay €240 for the RS90 and €300 for the RS90+. There’s also an IR extender available to reach Infrared devices in other rooms for €28. The RS90 is expected to ship in Augusts 2024 while the RS90X is expected in October 2024.
