IFA 2024 Round-up: New products and interesting concepts

IFA 2024

Smart Home Centre visited IFA 2024 in Berlin to have a look at all the new products launched by Smart Home brands like Aqara, SwitchBot, Nanoleaf and Flic. Besides announced products, there are also several concepts and products showcased at IFA which are not officially launched. We’ve summarised the newly announced products of these brands and share a sneak peek of a few not yet announced products and concepts

SwitchBot

SwitchBot launched a bunch of products before and during IFA. A new Wallet Finder Card as an AirTag alternative, Air Purifiers and a Humidifier, the Meter Pro with and without CO₂ monitor, the 3-in-1 K10+ Pro Combo vacuum and adjustable Roller Shades in various sizes. For all the details, check out our articles about the following launches:

Next to these products, SwitchBot had several interesting new products to show at the IFA of which most will likely launch in November and December. First, they will launch the SwitchBot Lock Pro in the colour Silver. This means you will be able to choose between Black and Silver, probably as early as this October.

Second, SwitchBot will also launch a Relay Switch, which you can connect to your lights or shades, to control these through the SwitchBot App. It will be based on WiFi and has Matter support build-in, so no hub is required to connect this relay to your favourite Smart Home platform. A product page with some first information about the SwitchBot Relay Switch is available here.

SwitchBot also showcased a video doorbell at IFA. This device has a keypad with a build-in camera and button. It can replace a SwitchBot Keypad, so you can use it as a Keypad for your lock. A separate screen can be placed inside your house where you can view the video feed of the doorbell when someone rings the bell. You will probably also be able to use this screen to talk to the person on the other side. It’s not clear whether the showed product as shown below is the final design, but it at least gives an idea what kind of product SwitchBot is going to launch probably later this year.

Aqara

Aqara also announced several new products, such as an Outdoor Camera, Light Switches and bulbs with both Thread and Zigbee, a Valve Controller and the Voice Mate. Check for more information about these products in our article here

Aqara also showed several concepts and products which are not yet announced officially. Maybe the most interesting device is the Panel Hub S1 Plus EU. This 6.9 inch Smart Home panel with a resolution of 1440 * 770 can be placed in a EU-type wall box and has a build-in wall switch for 2 lights. It’s mainly focussed on showing various video feeds from camera’s in your house, but can also control other devices. When someone rings the Aqara Doorbell G4, it will automatically show you a live video feed. It will support WiFi, but also functions as a Zigbee Hub and Matter bridge. If you don’t have a suitable place on your wall, you can also connect the Panel Hub S1 Plus EU with USB-C for table placement. At the IFA in Berlin, this device already seemed to function very well and it’s also promising it’s not stated as a concept but a new product. We might see the launch of this product in the coming 6 months.

Several other concepts are shown this yeas, such as a Shutter Switch H2 EU for controlling roller shutters. It will both support Thread and Zigbee, has a wireless switch mode and requires a neutral wire. It should fit regular 55 mm frames.

The Aqara 45mm SW60 Tubular Motor can control your outdoor roller shutters and is focussed on the European market. Aqara states it can be integrated with third party Smart Home systems easily, but doesn’t yet state which communication protocols are used.

The Climate Sensor W100 is another concept device, which should be able to control your home’s temperature. It contains 3 configurable buttons and supports Thread and Bluetooth. Temperature and humidity sensors are build-in. Its battery should last 4 years. We expect this device will be able to e.g. control the Radiator Thermostat E1 that Aqara already offers for a while. Using a very similar looking device, Aqara also showed the Floor Heating Thermostat W500, suitable for electric floor heating systems up to 16A. It will support both Zigbee and Thread. It also has the 3 configurable buttons, has a backlit screen and supports dry contact control and includes a wired sensor.

Although there are already quite some specific details shared, it’s of course always unsure what the actual design and specifications will be at launch, given these are all concepts. Nevertheless, it’s interesting to see that Aqara is working on several new products in the coming year.

Nanoleaf

Nanoleaf launched several new products at IFA, such as their new Blocks line and the Sense+ Smart Wireless Switch. This wireless switch is the first from Nanoleaf and even has a build-in motion and light sensor. If you have one of these remotes in every room, lights can automatically turn on as soon as you’re walking by the switch. There are also some new products in their essential line, such as a light bulb working over WiFi and a multicolour string light with Matter support. You can check more information in our article about the new products from Nanoleaf.

Flic

Flic launched their newest product earlier this year with the Flic Tist. The company is known for their small smart buttons which you can integrate with various different devices and services, such as your Hue lights, Spotify or Sonos speakers. With the Flic Twist, it adds a rotary wheel which you can use to control the brightness of lights or the volume of your speakers.

New since this week is the Matter controller functionality of the hubs from Flic. This means you can now add Matter compatible devices directly to the Flic hub through the app from Flic. Afterwards, you can control these devices with your Flic and Flic Twist buttons. This makes it possibly to easily add all your Matter products to the Flic hub and control them directly. If you already own a hub from Flic, a software update is available in the app to get this new functionality.
