Homey has several updates this month about its Smart Home platform. Earlier this month, they announced the Energy Dongle and updated their app with the ability to build dashboards for your Smart Home. Today, they announce a new hardware product: the Homey Pro mini. Compared to the regular Homey Pro, it only supports Matter, Thread and Zigbee, but it’s also significantly cheaper. The new Smart Home hub from Homey is available for pre-order on the Homey Pro website for $199 in the United States and Canada and will ship in April 2025. Availability for Europe will follow later.
Main features
The regular Homey Pro, priced at $399, has a lot of different protocols on board. It connects to devices with Matter, Thread, Zigbee, Z-Wave, 433Mhz, Infrared and Bluetooth. Automations are local as everything is processed on-device. With the Homey Pro mini, Homey offers a more affordable option with Matter, Thread and Zigbee as core protocols. If you still want to add other protocols later, you can consider a Homey Bridge, priced at $69. This also means the Homey Pro mini is an interesting upgrade option for current Homey Bridge users as this adds Matter and Thread to their system for half the price of a Homey Pro.
The Homey Pro mini has all the functionality of the Homey Pro, expect for the before mentioned protocol differences and the hardware inside the Pro mini. It has a 1.5GHz Quad Core ARMv8 chip, 1 GB of RAM and 8GB of memory. It should be able to run 20-25 apps without any problems, which is more than sufficient for the average user.
The Homey Pro mini has a 1 Gbps Ethernet port and a usb-c port and is also significantly smaller than the Homey Pro. While the Homey Pro is targeting power-users, the Homey Pro mini might attract a broader audience due to it’s lower price point, while still supporting the most important protocols.
Availability and Price
The Homey Pro mini is available for pre-order in the United States and Canada for $199 on the official Homey website. A specific date for availability in Europe is currently not yet know, as Homey mentioned it a live stream on Youtube it will hopefully be available before the end of 2025.
