SwitchBot Lock Pro Matter Enabled comes with native Matter over WiFi support

SwitchBot Lock Pro Matter Enabled

SwitchBot is again present at IFA in Berlin this year, with a lot of announcements on new products. While SwitchBot already has several Matter over WiFi products, like the Air Purifier and their Robot Vacuums, this was not the case for their locks. Until now, you always needed a Matter Enabled hub from SwitchBot to connect the SwitchBot Lock Pro or SwitchBot Lock Ultra to Apple HomeKit or other Matter platforms. This changes with the new SwitchBot Lock Pro Matter Enabled. With an added WiFi chip, it works with Matter over Wifi. The other specifications are similar to the already existing SwitchBot Lock Pro, which works over Bluetooth. The SwitchBot Lock Ultra is currently not yet available in a WiFi version. The SwitchBot Lock Pro Matter Enabled is available for €149,99, or in combination with the Keypad Touch for €199,99 or Keypad Vision for €279,99.

SwitchBot Lock Pro with Native Matter Support

From the start, SwitchBot works over Bluetooth. Either directly connected to your phone or via one of their hubs. With the Hub 2, Hub 3 and Hub Mini Matter Enabled, they offer severals hubs to connect all your SwitchBot devices, but also adds Matter support for your SwitchBot products. As Bluetooth itself is not part of the Matter protocol, all bluetooth products need a hub in between to gain Matter support. In the last year, more and more products were launched with WiFi support, like their robot vacuum and Air Purifier. Also some of the lighting products from SwitchBot support WiFi, as well as their relays and garage door opener. All these products also natively support Matter, without the need of a bridge. With the launch of the updated SwitchBot Lock Ultra Matter Enabled, SwitchBot adds their first lock to the list of Matter over WiFi enabled products.

With native Matter support over WiFi, the SwitchBot Lock Pro Matter Enabled works with most Smart Home platforms.

The SwitchBot Lock Pro Matter Enabled shares the same specifications as the original SwitchBot Lock Pro. It is a retrofit lock and fits most doors without the need to drill or make adjustments. You can use either regular AA Batteries or a separately sold battery pack, which you can charge with USB-C. Next to opening your door via the SwitchBot app, a Matter platform like Apple HomeKit, Google Home or Home Assistant and their voice assistants, you can also pair the SwitchBot Lock Pro Matter Enabled to a Keypad Touch. This enables unlocking methods like fingerprint, pincodes or NFC cards. You can also opt for the combination with the Keypad Vision, which features facial recognition to open your door.
