Matter and Thread are commonly used terms in the past few years when speaking about Smart Home. The Matter protocol makes sure you’re able to connect all your Smart Home products to all major Smart Home platforms, while Thread enables the connection between the accessory and your main Smart Home hub, like WiFi, Bluetooth and Zigbee. As more and more hubs support Matter and Thread, the need for extra hubs will become less. In this article, we list the best Matter over Thread products in the most important Smart Home categories.
Smart Home Hubs
Smart Home starts with a Smart Home hub: a central hub to connect all your Smart Home devices and control them in a particular platform. To pick the right Smart Home hub, you need to look into compatibility with your current Smart Home devices, but also the platform you like to use. For iPhone users, Apple HomeKit can be a great choice, while Android users are probably looking for Google Home.
Smart Lighting
Smart Lights are usually the first Smart Home product you own, and one of the reasons to start a Smart Home. It enables you to centrally control your Smart Lights and include them in your automations. A well know brand of Smart Lights is Phillips Hue, but they use Zigbee to connect their Smart Lights to their Philips Hue Bridge. The Hue Bridge does support Matter, so you are still able to connect these lights to your Smart Home. When looking into lights with Matter over Thread support, there are currently two options available: Nanoleaf and Aqara. Nanoleaf offers Matter over Thread devices for a while now, while Aqara just released a bunch of Matter over Thread devices in 2025, like the Aqara Led Bulb T2. We’ll list a few interesting options below.
Smart Motion Sensors
Smart Lights are even more smart when used with motions sensors. You can automatically turn on your lights when you walk past a motion sensor and turn them of when no motion is detected for a while. You can also adjust the brightness of your lights based on the time of day. Aqara and Eve both have a motion sensor with Matter over Thread, which we will list below.
Smart Door- and Window Sensors
A door- and window sensor can be an interesting addition to your Smart Home. It’s ideal for your walk-in closet, where the lights turn on when you open the door. It can also function as a sensor to gard your house by getting notifications when a door is opened when you’re not home. These notifications can be set in Apple HomeKit and other Smart Home platforms. Like the motions sensors, Both Aqara and Eve offer a door- and window sensor with Matter over Thread.

Energy monitoring is not available yet in all Smart Home platform, but in this case you can use the Eve app to monitor this.
Smart Locks
With a Smart Door Lock, you’re able to control access to your home anywhere in the world, without the need for a physical key. You can use a keypad to enter your home with a PIN code, fingerprint or by using Apple Home Key. There are several options available with Matter over Thread, here we highlight the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra and the Aqara U200 Smart Lock.
Smart Thermostat
The last category in this article is the smart thermostat. With a Smart Thermostat, you’re able o control the temperature with your phone, but also enables you to only heat up specific rooms. With schedules, you’re able to turn your thermostat on or off at specific times, which could potentially save you some money. In Europe, Tado is one of the most well known brands regarding Smart Thermostats. With their latest model, the Tado X, they now also offer Matter over Thread for their complete X lineup.
