Aqara released their latest Smart Lock for the North American market, the Aqara U50. This Smart Lock has a familiar look, as it is almost a copy of the already existing Aqara U100. The main difference with the U100 is the lack of a fingerprint scanner to unlock the door. The keypad, NFC cards and Apple Home Key functionality are all still included. With this new Smart Lock, Aqara adds a lock to their range with for a more friendly price with only small compromises.

The Aqara Lock U50 is deadbolt lock meant for the North American market. It has a build-in keypad and NFC reader, allowing users to enter their homes with pascodes, NFC cards and Apple Home Key. Other ways supported to unlock the door is with a voice assistent, physical key and apps from e.g. Aqara, Apple HomeKit and Google Home. It’s Zigbee based and supports Matter through one of Aqara’s hubs, such as de Aqara Hub M2, Aqara Camera G3 or the recently released Aqara Hub M3. The four AA batteries should last for about 6 months on one charge. There’s a USB-C port to charge your lock in case of an emergency if someone forgets to charge the batteries in time.
Availability and Price
Aqara adds another choice in their increasing range of Smart Locks with the U50. The Aqara U50 is available to pre-order for $149,99 on Amazon, with June 6th as release date. The official retail price of the Aqara U100 with fingerprint scanner is $229,99, however you can find it regularly for $189,99 or less. This means potential buyers need to consider if the fingerprint functionality is indeed worth the price difference. In Q3 or Q4 this year the Aqara U200 retrofit lock with Matter-over-Thread is expected for both the US and Europe.
