Heiman showed off the first sensor to use NFC commissioning, the new pairing method introduced in Matter 1.6, at IFA 2026. Instead of scanning a QR code or setting up a Bluetooth connection, you pair the HS2HT simply by tapping your phone or hub against it. Heiman is still a fairly unfamiliar name outside its home market, but the Chinese manufacturer has been making smoke, CO and environmental sensors for years, and it is now one of the first brands to show NFC commissioning working in real hardware.
What NFC commissioning adds to Matter
Up to and including Matter 1.5, pairing a device meant scanning a QR code that then triggered a Bluetooth Low Energy connection. That works fine for a standalone device sitting on a table, but it is awkward for something like a ceiling light or wall switch that you can only reach after it is already mounted. With NFC commissioning, the entire pairing exchange can now happen over NFC, even before a device is fully powered. You simply hold your phone near the sensor and pairing completes immediately, with no separate Bluetooth step needed. Read more about how Matter compares to Thread, Zigbee and Wi-Fi.
That also makes it possible to commission devices before they are even installed: an installer can pre-configure a whole batch of sensors with the right network credentials back at the warehouse, so mounting them on site becomes little more than screwing them into place. For larger installations, that saves a meaningful amount of time.
HS2HT: an IP65 outdoor sensor for temperature and humidity

The HS2HT itself is an IP65-rated outdoor sensor that measures temperature and humidity. Thanks to that rating, you can mount it outside without worrying about rain or dust, for example on a fence or under an awning. Heiman hasn’t announced pricing or a release date yet.
Also new: the SC3 smoke alarm and HS2VTD sensor
Alongside the HS2HT, Heiman showed the SC3, a smoke and CO alarm available in several connectivity variants: Matter, Zigbee, Wi-Fi or Sub-GHz. It also comes as a wired, interconnected version and adds temperature and humidity monitoring on top of smoke and CO detection. The company also revealed the HS2VTD, a 4-in-1 door and window sensor that adds vibration, temperature and humidity detection to the usual open/close sensing. This one also comes in separate Matter, Zigbee and Sub-GHz versions.
Heiman hasn’t announced pricing or availability for any of these new products yet. What is clear is that NFC commissioning is likely to show up in more Matter devices soon, now that one manufacturer has demonstrated it working in real hardware.
