Homey Pro Mini now available Globally

Homey Pro Mini

While the Homey Pro Mini has already been available in the United States and Canada for half a year, this wasn’t yet the case in Europe. That changes today: the Homey Pro Mini is now available worldwide. Compared to the Homey Pro (2023), it offers a built-in Ethernet port but drops support for Z-Wave, 433 MHz, Infrared, and Bluetooth. With a price of €249, it’s significantly cheaper than the Homey Pro, which retails for €399. This makes it a much more affordable way to start managing your smart home with Homey.

Differences Homey Pro and Homey Pro Mini

Unlike the regular Homey Pro, the Homey Pro Mini works exclusively via Ethernet. The Ethernet port is built in, whereas the Homey Pro requires an adapter. This also means you cannot use Wi-Fi to connect the Mini to the internet. The Homey Pro Mini continues to support Matter, Thread, and Zigbee. For Z-Wave, Bluetooth, Infrared, and 433 MHz, you’ll need the Homey Bridge, which can be purchased separately for €69. This allows you to start with the Homey Pro Mini and later add the missing protocols via the Homey Bridge. The total cost then becomes €318—still considerably cheaper than the €399 Homey Pro.

However, that doesn’t mean this combination is always the best choice. For most users, the 1GB of RAM in the Mini will be more than enough. Power users, however, may prefer the 2GB RAM found in the regular Homey Pro. The Homey Pro Mini can run around 20 apps, while the average Homey user currently has about 14 apps installed. Through dashboards on your smartphone or tablet, you can control all smart home devices connected to the Homey Pro Mini.

About Homey

Homey is a platform that brings all your smart home products together. With support for Matter, Thread, and Zigbee, you can connect a wide range of devices directly to the Homey Pro Mini. The Homey app allows you to control devices such as lights, sensors, and smart blinds. You can also manage your energy consumption and schedule household appliances to run when energy prices are at their lowest. Homey supports both simple and advanced automations—called Flows—which allow your home to react to various conditions.

Alongside Homey, other well-known smart home platforms include Google Home, Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant. Each platform offers different capabilities, so the best choice depends on your existing setup and the features you require. Homey sets itself apart by offering a hub that supports many protocols, such as Zigbee and Thread, making you less dependent on brand-specific hubs.

Availability and Pricing

The Homey Pro Mini is available immediately for €249 in Europe, while priced at $199 in the United States. This is €150 less than the Homey Pro, which costs €399. Expanding the Mini with a Homey Bridge adds €69. Homey also offers a cloud subscription for €2,99 per months, which doesn’t require Homey hardware. However, many Smart Home products still require a Homey hub to function. With the Homey Pro or Homey Pro Mini, no additional subscription is needed.
