tado° has introduced the second-generation Smart Thermostat X, a fully redesigned thermostat that is thinner, rechargeable and easier to control directly on the device. At 17.8mm, it is considerably slimmer than the previous model. Matter and Thread support remain part of the tado° X platform.

The thermostat has a matte white finish and a minimalist LED display. A circular touch interface around the screen lets you adjust the temperature without opening the app. There is also a configurable button on the top. You can use it to display humidity or temporarily boost the heating, depending on the function you assign to it.
Its built-in lithium-ion battery charges via USB-C and should last for more than a year, according to tado°. This removes the need for disposable batteries. The thermostat is compatible with boilers, heat pumps and hydronic underfloor heating. The tado° app provides step-by-step installation guidance. Existing tado° X products remain compatible, although X devices do not directly work with the older V3+ range.

AI Assist and Multi Home expand the software
tado° is also expanding its software. AI Assist adjusts the heating based on the weather and the characteristics of your home. Geofencing, Open Window Detection, Adaptive Heating and Preheat Before Arrival can operate automatically in the background. AI Assist is an optional subscription priced at €3.99 per month or €29.99 per year.
Hydronic Balancing is included with AI Assist and works alongside tado° Smart Radiator Thermostats X to improve the distribution of heat through the system. tado° says the feature is TÜV certified. Multi Home is another new addition. It lets you manage several homes, offices or a holiday property through one account. Individual properties within that account can use either V3+ or X products.
Prices and availability for the new tado° X range
At launch, the wired starter kit costs €179.99 and the wireless starter kit costs €199.99. The standalone wired thermostat is €119.99, while the wireless temperature sensor is €99.99. Multi Room starter kits with two radiator thermostats cost €329.99 for the wired version and €349.99 for the wireless version. Availability and local pricing may differ by country.
The products are available from 2 September 2026 through tado° and selected European retailers. tado° is also extending its Energy Savings Promise to all X products. Customers who are unhappy with their heating-cost savings during the first 12 months can request their money back under the company’s terms. tado° claims an average heating-cost saving of 22%, but that figure is an average rather than a guaranteed result for every home. Further specifications are available in the official tado° announcement.
