Shelly launches compact 1080p camera with local storage

Shelly has launched the Shelly Camera, a compact indoor security camera with Full HD video, night vision and local storage. It is the first new camera to join Shelly’s current smart home ecosystem. You can manage it through the Shelly Smart Control app, while local integrations and automation options make it more flexible than a basic cloud-only camera.

Shelly Camera records in 1080p and stores video locally

The Shelly Camera records video in 1080p and switches to black-and-white night vision in low light. A built-in microphone and speaker provide two-way audio. This makes the camera suitable for monitoring a room, pet, small office or holiday home while you are away.

Recordings can be stored in Shelly Cloud, but local storage is available as well. The camera accepts microSD cards with a capacity of up to 512GB. That gives you an alternative when you do not want every recording to depend entirely on a cloud connection. The card is not included, and additional cloud storage or AI features may require a paid service.

Ten detection zones and cloud-based AI

You can configure up to ten motion detection zones. For example, the camera can watch a door or window while ignoring a busy walkway or another area that would otherwise cause unnecessary notifications. When it detects an event, the app can send an alert with an image preview so you can quickly assess what has happened.

Shelly also lists cloud-based AI object recognition. The exact features and conditions may vary by service or region. Privacy options include blackout zones and a dedicated Privacy Mode that stops the camera completely. You can activate this mode in the app or by pressing a button on the side of the device.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and smart home integration

The camera supports dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth. According to Shelly, control is not limited to its own app. The company lists support for platforms including Home Assistant and Frigate NVR, while MQTT, WebSocket and scripting provide options for more advanced automations. A motion event could, for instance, trigger a Shelly relay to switch on a light.

Power is supplied over USB-C at 5V and 1A, and a cable is included. The camera measures approximately 53mm wide, 54mm high and 59mm deep, making it compact enough for a shelf or cabinet. Wall and ceiling mounting are also possible.

Shelly Camera price and availability

The Shelly Camera comes in black and white and is listed at €39.90 in Shelly’s European store. Availability may vary by colour and country. This makes it competitively priced for a camera with local microSD storage, two-way audio and extensive automation options.
